Mandriva Flash 2009 Spring - Linux on flash drive
Mandriva* released Linux on an 8GB flash drive containing Mandriva 2009 Spring edition. This portable Linux OS offers a Windows-style desktop and includes OpenOffice, Firefox 3.0, Mozilla Thunderbird, and Skype. Most surprisingly, this flash-drive version of Mandriva supports a 3D desktop. The 8GB capacity leaves room for documents, and it is convenient to carry: plug it in and boot from the flash drive to use it.
I am not sure which desktop it uses, because it supports so many: KDE 4.2, GNOME 2.26, LXDE, XFCE 4.6, and Sugar Desktop. I think it probably uses KDE 4.2 because the specifications mention 3D desktop support. Here is a preview of the KDE 4.2 3D Desktop feature.
Supported hardware mainly includes netbooks such as Asus Eee PC, Acer Aspire One, and MSI Wind. Supported languages are English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Finnish, Dutch, Portuguese, Portuguese (Brazil), and Swedish.
* Mandriva Linux is a commercial Linux distribution, like Red Hat and SUSE.
