Enable Dynamic CPU Speed Scaling in Linux

Linux’s power-saving technology, “cpuspeed”, has developed since Intel and AMD began adding DVS (dynamic voltage scaling) to CPUs. This adjusts CPU voltage to reduce power consumption, with the trade-off of also reducing clock speed, or CPU speed. cpuspeed runs as a background process in Linux and monitors the system. When CPU usage is low, it reduces CPU speed so that the computer uses less electricity. When more processing power is needed, it increases CPU speed to meet demand. In other words, cpuspeed operates on demand. cpuspeed is commonly used on laptops and notebooks to extend battery life. Start cpuspeed with this command. #service cpuspeed start To start cpuspeed automatically at boot, use: #chkconfig cpuspeed —level 345 on
