Telligent has acquired Zimbra from VMWare

Telligent has acquired Zimbra from VMWare to broaden Telligent’s capabilities. Telligent provides enterprise social collaboration, combining real-time communication, social networking, instant messaging, and online communities. Acquiring Zimbra adds enterprise-class email, calendar, and collaboration features. Despite the acquisition, Zimbra development will continue as usual. The next version (JudasPriest), due early next year, will not be affected, and an open source version will continue to be available. “Our goal is to return Zimbra to its roots as an independent collaboration software leader with a vibrant open source community,” says Patrick Brandt, CEO of Telligent. “This merger is a reflection of how people collaborate today – it’s about innovation in social, mobile and cloud technology.
