Yum, Yellow dog Update, Modified and How to use Yum
Yum, or Yellow dog Update, Modified, is an RPM package manager for installation, removal, updates, and more, developed by Duke University. Its advantage is that you do not need to worry about dependencies when installing RPM packages: Yum finds them in the configured repositories and installs them along with the requested package. Yum generally keeps its configuration in /etc/yum.conf and repositories in /etc/yum.repo.d. Examples of installing and updating RPM packages:
- Install Package #yum install package
- Update Package #yum update package
- Remove Package #yum remove package
- Search for a package: #yum search package
- View package information: #yum info package
- Find which package contains a file: #yum whatprovides filename
- disable repo #yum —disablerepo=some-repository install package
- enable repo #yum —enablerepo=some-disabled-repository install package
- Install from disc: #yum localinstall package
