How to fix yum return Segmentation fault error

On CentOS 5, running yum may return “Segmentation fault”, as shown below:

[root@ezylinux ~]# yum update bash
base                                                           | 1.1 kB     00:00
base/primary                                                   | 1.3 MB     00:00
Segmentation fault

Why yum returns Segmentation fault yum has a problem with zlib version 1.2.5. Fixing yum’s Segmentation fault

1. Remove libz.so.1.2.5 with: [root@ezylinux ~]# rm /usr/local/lib/libz.so.1.2.5
2. Create a symbolic link from /usr/local/lib/libz.so to /usr/local/lib/libz.so.1.2.5 with: [root@ezylinux ~]# ln -s /usr/local/lib/libz.so /usr/local/lib/libz.so.1.2.5

Try running yum again.
