Virtualization

Increase the Virtual Console Resolution

The virtual console normally displays only 80x24 lines. To increase its resolution, edit /boot/grub/grub.conf and add vga=“resolution code” to the kernel line. The example sets the virtual console to 1024×768 and 24-bit color.

kernel /vmlinuz-2.6.18-92.1.18.el5 ro root=/dev/VolGroup00/LogVol00 rhgb quiet vga=792

See the following table for resolution codes.

Depth 800×600 1024×768 1152×864 1280×1024 1600×1200
8 bit vga=771 vga=773 vga=353 vga=775 vga=796
16 bit vga=788 vga=791 vga=355 vga=794 vga=798
24 bit vga=789 vga=792 ------- vga=795 vga=799

P.S. This does not work with the Xen kernel.
