Installing MySQL 5.6 using the MySQL yum repository

Oracle has released a MySQL Yum repository to make installing and updating MySQL server easier. Initially it supports these Linux distributions:

• Red Hat/Oracle Enterprise Linux/CentOS 6
• Fedora 18 and 19

The MySQL Yum repository contains these main packages:

• MySQL Community 5.6
• MySQL Workbench
• MySQL Connector / ODBC

Installing MySQL 5.6 with the MySQL Yum repository

1. Download the MySQL Yum repository from: http://dev.mysql.com/downloads/repo/
2. The download is an RPM file for installing the MySQL Yum repository. Install it with:
   • For Red Hat/Oracle Enterprise Linux/CentOS 6: [root@ezylinux ~]# rpm -ivh mysql-community-release-el6-3.noarch.rpm
   • For Fedora 18: [root@ezylinux ~]# rpm -ivh mysql-community-release-fc18-3.noarch.rpm
   • For Fedora 19: [root@ezylinux ~]# rpm -ivh mysql-community-release-fc19-3.noarch.rpm
3. Install MySQL server from the Yum repository. [root@ezylinux ~]# yum install mysql-server

Tips To install other packages, check the package list with:

[root@ezylinux ~]# yum --disablerepo=\* --enablerepo=mysql-community list available
