Details of the Zimbra packages used during installation
Details of the Zimbra packages
- Zimbra Core is the main package installed every time. It contains libraries, utilities, monitoring tools, and basic configuration files.
- Zimbra LDAP provides user authentication with OpenLDAP as its backend. Each user’s data is stored with a unique mailbox ID as the account’s primary point. The Zimbra LDAP server must always be installed before the other servers.
- Zimbra Store contains the mailbox server components, including Jetty (servlet container). The Zimbra mailbox server has these components:
- Data store is a MySQL database.
- Message store stores all email messages and file attachments.
- Index store stores the indexes used to search each mailbox.
- Zimbra MTA uses Postfix as the mail transfer agent (MTA), which receives mail through SMTP and routes it to the Zimbra mailbox server through Local Mail Transfer Protocol (LMTP). Zimbra MTA also includes anti-virus and anti-spam components.
- Zimbra SNMP (optional) is used to monitor zimbra through SNMP.
- Zimbra Logger (optional) is generally installed on one mailbox server and must be installed together with that mailbox server. Zimbra Logger provides syslog aggregation and reports. Without Zimbra Logger, server statistics do not appear in the administration console.
- Zimbra Spell (optional) is the spell checker used by the Zimbra Web Client.
- Zimbra Apache is installed automatically when Zimbra Spell is installed.
