How to change an iDRAC password using Racadm
We can reset an iDRAC password directly from the server through OpenManage using racadm.
OpenManage must be installed first. See How to install Dell OpenManage Server Administrator (OMSA).
After installing OpenManage, run the command below to check the system’s default login username.
racadm getconfig -g cfgUserAdmin -i 2
The example output shows that the login user is superadmin.
# cfgUserAdminIndex=2
cfgUserAdminUserName=superadmin
# cfgUserAdminPassword=******** (Write-Only)
cfgUserAdminEnable=1
cfgUserAdminPrivilege=0x000001ff
cfgUserAdminIpmiLanPrivilege=4
cfgUserAdminIpmiSerialPrivilege=4
cfgUserAdminSolEnable=1
Run the command below to reset the password for user superman.
racadm config -g cfgUserAdmin -o cfgUserAdminPassword -i 2 NEWPASS
Here, NEWPASS is the new password. ** To reset another user’s password, change the -i option to another number. First inspect the users to make sure the user index matches the username whose password you want to reset.
