How to disable InnoDB storage engine on MySQL

mysql-logo MySQL enables the InnoDB storage engine by default. If you do not need it, disable it to save system resources. To disable InnoDB:

  1. Edit my.cnf and add the following under [mysqld]:

    skip-innodb
    default-storage-engine=myisam
  2. Alternatively, if you start MySQL from the command line, run: # mysqld --skip-innodb --default-storage-engine=myisam

Then check whether InnoDB has been disabled with:

mysql> SHOW ENGINES;

If InnoDB is absent, it has been disabled.
